You spent real money on a luxury candle. So why is it tunneling down the center after two burns, leaving half the wax stuck to the glass like it is staging a protest?
Here is the thing: most candle problems come down to a handful of easy-to-fix habits. Whether you just brought home your first Sunday Forever candle or you have an entire shelf of them (no judgment, same), these tips will help you get every last hour of gorgeous fragrance out of every jar.
This is the single most important rule of candle care, and the one people skip most often. The first time you light a new candle, let it burn until the entire top layer of wax has melted from edge to edge. For an 11 oz candle like our 11:11 Luxury Candle, that is about two to three hours.
Why does this matter? Soy and coconut wax blends have memory. The melt pool you create during that first burn sets the pattern for every burn after. Blow it out too early and you get tunneling, and once that happens, it is very hard to fix. Set a timer, watch a movie, do not rush it.

Before you reach for the lighter (might we suggest our Light Em If You Got Em Slim Stick Lighter?), trim the wick to about a quarter of an inch. A wick that is too long creates a bigger flame, which means more soot, more smoke, and an uneven burn. It can also cause the glass to overheat, and nobody wants that.
You can use a dedicated wick trimmer, nail clippers, or just pinch off the charred tip with your fingers once the wax has cooled. Make it part of your ritual and your candles will burn cleaner and last significantly longer. It takes ten seconds. Do it.
Burning too briefly causes tunneling. Burning too long causes the wick to mushroom, the fragrance to get overwhelming, and the wax to overheat. The ideal burn session for most luxury candles is right around two to four hours.
Think of it this way: light your Rich Luxury Candle when you settle in for a movie and blow it out when the credits roll. Perfect timing, every time.

Placing your candle near an open window, air vent, or high-traffic doorway causes the flame to flicker unevenly, which leads to one-sided burning and excess soot. Find a stable, level surface away from drafts and your candle will reward you with an even melt pool every time.
Also: keep candles out of direct sunlight when they are not lit. UV exposure fades the fragrance and can discolor the wax. Treat them like the luxury objects they are.
Here is a trick worth stealing: light a candle for ambient fragrance and give the room a spritz of the matching room mist for an instant boost. The Smokeshow Room Mist paired with the Smokeshow Candle creates this warm, enveloping atmosphere that lingers for hours after you blow out the flame. It is a small move with a big payoff.

When your candle burns down to about half an inch of wax at the bottom, it is time to retire it. Burning below that level can overheat the glass and whatever surface it is sitting on. But do not throw that jar away, clean it out with warm water and repurpose it as a makeup brush holder, a succulent planter, or a spot for your Sunday Forever jewelry. A second life well lived.
First burn: Let the wax melt edge to edge (2-3 hours for an 11 oz candle).
Wick trim: Cut to 1/4 inch before every single burn.
Burn time: Keep sessions between 2 and 4 hours.
Placement: Flat surface, away from drafts and direct sunlight.
Retire: Stop burning when 1/2 inch of wax remains.
Layer: Pair with a matching room mist for maximum scent impact.
Taking care of your candle is really just about slowing down and being intentional, which, if you think about it, is the whole point of lighting one in the first place. Explore the full candle collection and find your next favorite burn.
